driving lessons Markham

In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old to apply for a driver’s licence. You can write the G1 written test at 16 and start the graduated licensing system (G1 → G2 → G).

The minimum age for a driver’s licence varies by province in Canada:

  • Alberta & Manitoba: 14 years old (learner’s permit)

  • Ontario, B.C., Quebec, Saskatchewan: 16 years old

  • Parental consent may be required if you’re under 18

Every province requires passing knowledge and road tests before getting a full licence.

Pro Tip: Start preparing early with a G1 practice test to increase your chances of passing on the first try!

To prepare for the test, you can take free G1 practice tests online. A reliable website for practice is:

To take the G2 road test in Ontario, you must first wait a mandatory period after obtaining your G1 license:

  • Without driver training: You must wait 12 months.

  • With driver training: You can take the G2 test after 8 months, only if you complete both the full online course and in-car lessons from an MTO-approved driving school like DriveSoon.

Completing the full BDE course not only reduces your wait time but also helps you build the skills and confidence needed to pass the G2 test and drive safely on the road.

For newcomers with previous driving experience:
If you’re new to Ontario and have international driving experience:

  • You must first pass the G1 knowledge test to enter the licensing system.

  • After passing G1, you can present a valid driving extract or experience letter from your home country at a DriveTest Centre.

  • With approval, you may get a chance to go directly for the G test without waiting for G2.

However, if you fail the direct G attempt, you will need to:

  • Pass the G2 road test first, and

  • Then become eligible to take the G test anytime afterward.

For the online course, there is no fixed schedule. You can learn at your own pace, anytime that suits you. There’s complete flexibility and no penalty for delays in online progress. However, you must complete the course within one year from the date of registration.

For the in-car lessons, cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Since in-car sessions involve a scheduled time and the instructor’s commitment, any no-show or late cancellation (less than 24 hours) will result in a $50 fee payable directly to the instructor at the next scheduled appointment. This policy helps respect the instructor’s time and ensures smooth scheduling for all students.

We fully understand that unavoidable circumstances may arise. If you decide to cancel the course, you can do so within two weeks as long as you have not started the course, and a full refund will be issued.

However, once you have set up your login credentials, it will be considered that you have joined the course, and no refund will be provided.

You will still have one year from the date of registration to complete the course, which means you can choose to continue it anytime within that period.

A completion certificate is recorded as a Driving History Record by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). It confirms that the student has successfully completed the MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education (BDE) course and is electronically added to your driving file.

Benefits include:

  • Reduces the G1 waiting period from 12 months to 8 months, making you eligible for the G2 road test sooner.

  • May help you receive discounts on auto insurance.

Please note: The certificate is not required when attending your road test.

If lost:
You can get a copy of your Driving History Record by visiting a Service Ontario location or ordering online here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/order-drivers-record.  The cost for reprinting is $12.

G2 Road Test

The G2 road test evaluates your basic driving skills, including:

  • Starting, stopping, turning, and changing lanes

  • Obeying traffic signs and signals

  • Driving through intersections

  • Proper use of mirrors and signals

  • Parallel parking, uphill and/or downhill parking

  • Three-point turns and overall vehicle control

  • Front-in and reverse (optional) parking at the test center

This test is conducted on city streets and in residential areas and typically lasts about 20 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic and the time you take to demonstrate the maneuvers.

G Road Test

The G road test, which was modified during the COVID-19 pandemic, now primarily focuses on highway driving. However, the test may begin on city roads and include a few lane changes before entering the highway. It assesses your ability to:

  • Safely merge and change lanes

  • Enter and exit highways

  • Maintain proper speed and following distance

  • Observe and make decisions at high speeds

The G test ensures that you are fully capable of driving safely on highways.

Experts highlight several common errors, including:

  • Inadequate observations at intersections

  • Improper use of mirrors, not physically checking the blindspots

  • Mistakes when turning right and left at intersections

  • Losing control of the car

  • Misinterpretation of road signs

  • Poor positioning on the road

  • Not properly obeying the traffic lights and stop signs

  • Faulty maneuvers, such as parallel or reverse parking

Yes, we offer free pick-up and drop-off within our service areas, including Markham, Scarborough, Toronto, and nearby neighborhoods. Whether it’s from home, school, or work, we do our best to accommodate your preferred location to make your lessons convenient.

Please note: We do not accept last-minute changes to pick-up locations. If you need to update your address, you must inform the instructor at least 24 hours in advance. This helps the instructor modify his route while scheduling other students.

If there’s a change, please discuss it directly with your instructor. He will try his best to accommodate your request if there’s flexibility in the schedule.

Yes, visitors from any country can drive in Canada for up to 90 days using a valid driver’s license from their home country. If the license is not in English or French, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is also required.

After 90 days, if you plan to stay longer (as a student, worker, or permanent resident), you must obtain an Ontario driver’s license. Depending on your country of origin, you may be able to exchange your license directly, or you may need to start with the G1 written test and follow the full licensing process.
